Fighting “The Good Fight”

What’s up Guys?

This past weekend two of my good friends  and training partners, Frankie Alogna and Tom McGuire  competed in a local Jiu-jitsu tournament (Frankie 1st in No gi and No Gi absolute divisions, Tom first in his  Gi divisions  WHAT UP) and I went to coach. After the tournament, the one thing that went through my head was how much I really miss competing. I have written on here a bunch of times about how I want to get into competing in jits but so far that’s all it has been is writing, I never did anything about it..until now.

I came home from the tournament and I started researching  grappling events coming up and I decided that I will be competing in The  gi and no divisions at The Good Fights  Tournament of Brotherly Love March 17th in Philadelphia.  I’m really excited  to get competing again, anyone who knows me knows that I am an extremely competitive guy, I believe that competition gives your training a heightened sense of purpose which, I’ll be honest, I have felt I’ve been lacking lately.

There are certain challenges with jiu-jitsu that I would not face in judo such as an opponent being able to pull guard as soon as we stand or in the No gi division, besides not having anything to hold on to in the standing portion, they  also allow straight leg locks, but we have the area’s best  coaching staff at Scranton MMA for a reason and I will get together with them and we will put together the best game plan possible for me to be successful and overcome any challenges that I might face. Besides, I’ve always said if some leglocks me I’ll just tap and then present a first class bus ticket to hell to the guy who has to resort to leg locking the kid in the wheelchair hahaha

I am about 16lbs away from  The Good Fight’s  featherweight division of 149 lbs so I have a little bit of work to do but I don’t mind it, cutting weight has always helped to get me in the right competition mindset plus it’s a good excuse for me to get back in shape.

I’m real excited , just like with freestyle nationals last year, this feels like yet another new chapter

Stay tuned..i’ll be back with updates on my progress
