What is  Peak Performance Coaching? Who can benefit from it? Why is it important? In today’s fast paced world, it seems like there’s a new buzzword for every fad and trend that comes into style. And as quickly as they gain popularity, they fade away and we forget about them. Peak Performance Coaching is NOT one of those things. While the term may be new, the concept is not. Coaches and trainers have been applying the principles of performance coaching to both professional and novice athletes alike for generations. Boyd Epley, Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning at the University of Nebraska, for example, integrated Performance Coaching practices into his work during the mid and late 1960s. Peak Performance coaching is the process of testing and monitoring an athlete’s ability then creating a training program to identify the athlete’s strengths and weaknesses. Peak Performance coaching includes:
  • Identifying the athlete’s potential
  • Recognizing what is keeping the athlete from reaching his or her potential
  • Understanding how performance is affected by emotions
  • Setting achievable goals
  • Developing new skills
  • Creating a training plan and monitoring the effectiveness of the plan
